Ferrules or tips.-In pneumatic or other pads or caps, for use at the ends of wooden and like articles, and which are attached by a central screw, the screw-head is lugged and takes into an internal lugged groove on the pad. In pads which are attached by a socket, an inturned lugged flange on the socket takes into an external lugged groove on the pad. Fig. 3 is a sectional plan, at the groove, of the pad shown attached in Fig. 5, and shows the recesses b and projections c in the groove. A pin-head a1 may be inserted in the cap passing through from the centre of the air-cavity d. The screw may be partly secured before placing on the rubber cap. In the form shown in Fig. 6, the socket is split at f2 and attached by indentations f3. In addition, it may be riveted on. Fig. 15 shows the inturned flange f1, which takes round the lugged external groove of the pad. The wearing face may be plain, chequered, or roughened, and its cross-section may be round, square, oval, &c.
