Decanting and settling.-Settling-tanks for separating liquid from crushed-ore products or other granular material are provided with horizontallyarranged diaphragms below the upper level of the mass of the settled material, so as to prevent the formation of passages through the mass. The diaphragms may be flat, convex, hemispherical, or conical, and may be perforated or formed with serrated edges, or both perforated and serrated so as to allow of the downward passage of the solid material.
