Stiffening.-A composition for stiffening silk and cotton crinoline hats and similar hats is made by mixing together methylated spirits, acetic acid, formaldehyde, gelatine, and myrbane or lemon-grass. The gelatine is dissolved by steam and added to the methylated spirits and acetic acid heated to 100‹ F.
