Hinged valves; actuating valves; dirt, removing.-In ships' ash-ejector apparatus a hinged float valve h at the bottom of the hopper a is raised if the water rises in the pipe b consequent on the pump o ceasing to work. The face of the valve is kept clear of ashes by a water jet g. In a modification, the valve is linked to and operated by a ball-float lever. The valve may also be operated by the hand lever l.
