Gas burners.- A high pressure gas burner for brazing and t h e like, and for use in gas furnaces, has means for varying the e volume without reducing the pressure of the gas passing through it, and is combined with a secondary or by-pass low-pressure burner. Means may be provided for automatically cutting off the gas from the high-pressure burner when it is put down or loosed. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 2 and 4 for brazing &c., the gas-supply tube a has a handle b, and near it is arranged the handle g of a bell-crank lever connected by a link k to the hinged lever m, the end of which works in a slot e2 in the head of the spindle c. On depressing the handle g, the coned end e' of the spindle is retracted against the pressure of a spring i1, which acts between a slotted upright p and a collar o on the rod k. The by-pass d2 has a regulating-screw d3, and is in one with the burner head d. In a modification, the short arm of the bell-crank lever acts directly in the slotted end of the valve spindle, the long arm being pressed outwards by a spring preferably arranged in a groove in the handle on the tube a. With this arrangement, a shield is preferably combined to protect the workman from the heat. A set-screw may be arranged in the long arm of the lever to limit its motion. A further construction is described and illustrated for use with furnaces, in which the spindle e screws in the tube c.
