India-rubber &c., extracting from shrubs &c. -Relates to improvements in the process for extracting and washing rubber and other gums from plants &c. described in Specification 9064/09, and consists in arranging the agglomerators therein described in series. The crushed plants &c. are fed from the tray 19, together with water from nozzles 34, into the space between the cones 9, 11, which are provided externally and internally respectively with helicoidal teeth, the helices of which are of opposite twist. The depth of the teeth may decrease towards the outlet, and the pitch may also vary. The outer cones may be shifted along their axes, and the inner cones are adjustable upon the shafts. From this agglomerator, in which the rubber is rubbed into nodules, the charge is fed to a second agglomerator similarly constructed, which the rubber leaves in the form of worm-like masses. The mixture passes into a rotary conical washing- drum 22 supported by four V-rollers 26 and driven by one pair of them by bevel-gear 28, 29 and chain-gear 31, 32. The washing-drum is constructed of two grooved end rings 23, 24 connected by bars 25 and the periphery of the truncated skeleton cone thus formed is covered with perforated zinc, wire gauze, &c.
