Liquids, purifying.-In an apparatus for adding sterilizing or disinfectant material to water, the material is contained in a glass receptacle 1 provided with air-tight covers 5, 6, through which pass the inlet and outlet pipes, respectively. The inlet 15 communicates with an annular groove 14, which leads through a passage 13 to a pipe 12 on a screwed plug 11 provided with a nozzle-shaped piece to support a strainer 20 in the end of a pipe 19 mounted on the outlet pipe 16. A pipe 27 with a cock 32 leads the treated water from the pipe 16, the end of which is mounted on a shelf &c. 22 and is provided with a detachable plug 26. In use, the cock 32 is closed and water passes into the vessel 1 to mingle with the disinfectant &c. The cock 32 is then opened, and dissolved disinfectant &c. passing out through the holes 33 in the tube 19 is added to the water.
