Method and Apparatus for Extinguishing Fires in Electric Cables and Electric Circuits especially in Telegraph Telephone and similar Installations.
Method and Apparatus for Extinguishing Fires in Electric Cables and Electric Circuits especially in Telegraph Telephone and similar Installations.
2226. Gautsch, C. Jan. 28. Drawings to Specification. Fire-extinguishing by gases.-In order to extinguish fires in the cable-protecting casings &c. of electric telegraph, telephone, and like installations, fixed pipes passing through the casings and having discharge outlets are adapted to convey extinguishing-gases, such as ammonia, sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide, or nitrogen, to the seat of the fire. Two or more gases, adapted when mixed to form a condensation product, may be passed through separate pipes, which communicate with one another shortly in advance of the outlets, and are provided with devices to facilitate the mixing of the gases. The air contained in the pipes is first forced out to the atmosphere through suitably-manipulated valves, and any excess of gas is carried off through ventilating-shafts. The openings in the pipes are protected against dust by loose caps adapted to be readily blown off. The parts of the extinguishing-apparatus are electrically insulated and connected to earth.
