Separators. - In order to free the steam generated by pouring molten slag into water from sulphur compounds and other impurities, milk of lime is added to the water, and the steam is passed through a stream of hot caustic soda, and a small quantity of ammonia is added. Steam from a generator c passes through a chamber i, through which a stream of hot caustic soda falls from a tank k. The caustic soda collects at the bottom of the chamber, and is circulated by a pump through tubular coils n in the generator back to the tank k. In passing from the chamber, the steam mingles with a small quantity of ammonia from a tank p.
