Pistols. - In a toy pistol for catching flies, insects, &c., a cylinder 9 of wire gauze or other material is detachably connected to a plug 12 provided with a sight 13 and a slot 18 engaged by the upper end of the trigger 3 and is enclosed in the barrel 4, which is provided with a longitudinal slot 5 and a foresight 6. On the forward movement of the cylinder 9, by the action of the trigger 3 and the spring 8, serrated jaws 16 hinged to the head 15 of the cage 9 and weighted at 17, fly open and catch the flies &c. ; when the sight 13 reaches the end of the slot 5, the movement is suddenly stopped and the jaws automatically close. The cage 9 may be detached from the plug 12 and the flies &c. removed therefrom. The jaws 16 and head 15 may be made of rubber and the barrel 4 of metal, wood, or paper.
