Factory and like time-recorders, card type; time markings; time and cost, computing. - Workmen's times are recorded and the wages shown on a card provided with time and wages scales, by means of shaped punch-marks made by a machine having time-driven shaped guides for the cards. At entry, the card is inserted, with the face shown in Fig. 2a upwards, underneath a rail T' and against a rail T, Fig. 4, with the end notch D against a guide g2, and the punch k2 is struck to produce a triangular notch 10 in the card. At exit the card, reversed as shown in Fig. 1a, is inserted with the notch 10 engaging the guide g2, which fits it, and the punch is struck again, producing a notch 11 as shown in Fig. 2a. In this way, the first notch 10 shows the time of entry on a scale, as seen in Fig. 1a, and the second notch 11, Fig. 2a, shows the elapsed time and wages on the scales a1, a. The guide g2 is carried by a carriage moving on rails H and having a rack I driven by a clock-wheel M with interrupted teeth to allow for meal times. A second rack J on the carriage gears with a spring drum gear q, which is released so as to return the carriage to initial position at the correct time by a pin R1 on the clock-wheel M. A premium scale B1, C1, Fig. 9, may be employed for work completed in less than normal time, the bonus being proportional to the time saved.
