Dust-laying compositions.-A mucilage prepared from seaweed by heating with water which may contain an alkali, such as sodium carbonate, is used to bind the dust and prevent explosions in coal-mines. A hygroscopic salt such as calcium chloride, and, according to the Provisional Specification, an antiseptic, may be added. The mucilage is applied by spraying.
