Sept. 19 Walls; roofs.-Walls and roofs of workmen's huts and other portable structures for tropical climates are constructed with outer and inner air spaces x, z separated by an intermediate non- conducting layer y' of clay &c. The spaces x, z are divided horizontally by means of battens g. Air passing through holes d, which may be closed by a hit-and-miss shutter, circulates horizontally in the outer space x, while cool air drawn from below the flooring circulates vertically through the inner space z, the battens g being perforated at h' for this purpose. The e space under the eaves is utilized for storage purposes.
