Covers; leaves; locking - followers. - The sideplates 1, 2, Fig. 1, of a loose-leaf binder having telescopic posts 3, 4 are provided mid-way of their lengths with locking-plates 8, 5 respectively, the plate 8 being slotted at 9 to receive a clamping-screw 6 carried by the plate 5. Passing upon the telescoping posts is a hollow compressor bar 10, in which a small slotted plate 11 is arranged to slide, the edges of the slots being adapted to engage with circumferential grooves 13 on pillars 14 attached to the side plate 2 in order to lock the bar 10 in a clamping position. The ends of the side plates 1, 2 are reduced in section as shown in Fig. 2a so as to form a wider hinge or creased portion c at the ends of the cover, thereby reducing the wear at this part and relieving the covers of the binders from stress at the ends of the frames. The flexibility of the leaves used in the binder is increased by forming the leaves with a series of gaps or parallel rows of holes near the folding edge.
