Double and multiple fabrics; tubular fabrics; strengthening non-metallic cords &c., fabrics with.-Woven belting, fire or other hose, paper-makers' felts, printers' pads and blankets, duck cloth, and like woven fabrics a, Figs. 1, 3, 10, 13, and 15, are provided with a protective covering b of floated weft threads, as shown in Figs. 1, 3, 10, and 13, or of warp threads, or of warp threads d, Fig. 15, and weft threads e, alternately or otherwise, the said protective covering being bound to the foundation or ground fabric (which comprises weft threads y and warp threads x) by special binding- threads c, Figs. 1, 3, 10, and 13, or by ground fabric threads as shown in Fig. 15; moreover, as also shown in Fig. 15, when both floated warp and weft threads are used. floated warp threads suitably bound may bind floated weft threads, and vice versa. The protective covering may be applied on one side only as shown in Fig. 3, or on both sides, or all round the foundation fabric as shown in Fig. 1, and it may be applied continuously as shown in Fig. 10, or intermittently as shown in Figs. 13 and 15, the covering being bound either continuously or intermittently. The weft threads of the covering may be applied by a separate shuttle or shuttles, or by the shuttles or shuttle used for the foundation fabric.
