7587. Chaumeret, M. March 28. Parachutes.-The parachute cover 1 is supported by flexible ribs 2 hinged to a bracket 11 on the central post 10 and is adapted to be expanded by rods 3 attached to sleeves 4 sliding on the post 10. Stops 4a limit the upward movement of the sleeves. The parachute is attached by a ball joint 7 and hinged bracket 9 to the machine or to a seat for the aviator or aviators which can be released simultaneouslv with the opening of the parachute. It is opened, when required, by cords passing over pulleys 5, 6 and attached to the lower sleeve 4. The parachute when collapsed is retained on the machine in an horizontal position by a ring which engages the free end 10a of the post 10, and the ribs are held together by a rubber ring. These rings are controlled by a cord, and, when the parachute is released, the springy nature of the ribs 2, or the cords connected to the sleeve 4, extend it.
