Openwork embroidery.-In openwork lace embroidery produced by embroidering on a ground fabric wherein regularly disposed portions of the warp or weft, or both, consist of chemically destructible material, and removing said destructible portions, the fabric is mercerized before or after the chemical treatment in order to preserve the regularity of the pattern. The ground fabric alone may be used as an ornamental material.
