Mechanical systems, non-automatic; combined electrical and mechanical systems, non- automatic; track apparatus actuating signals on trains.-For protecting trains in stations, track contacts k1, k2 are placed one on either side of the station and are controlled from the previous station. When the train leaves this station, an electrically-operated pawl b is raised to release a spring drum a, which turns a stop-wheel f to raise a rod h. This rod is connected to bellcrank levers i, which allow the contacts to fall. The train, after passing the contact k1, depresses a lever l, which is then locked down by a pawl m. The lever l operates lower bell-crank levers n to raise the contacts k1, k2 until the train, on passing out, depresses a contact o adjacent to the contact k2 to depress that contact out of the way and to release the lever l, through the lever p and flexible connexions. The lever o also operates a pawl q to release a spring drum r, which turns a stop-wheel t to raise the rod h and reset the contacts k1, k2. A second train following the first contacts with the raised levers, and a whistle is sounded. To allow of the passage of a special train, the rod h may be operated by rack-and-pinion v. The shaft e of the wheel f carries an indicator showing the scheduled time of each train.
