Wireless telegraphy and telephony; electric oscillations, producing. - The transmitting- aerial is charged relatively slowly in one sense only and is impulsively discharged by means of a quenched spark, thus .producing unidirectional discharges of the aerial, which can be received by a distant aerial without the use of a detector, the formation of free oscillations in the receiving-aerial being prevented by the insertion in the aerial circuit of a high ohmic resistance, such as a telephone or relay. To obtain a rapid succession of aerial discharges, a number of quenched sparks S1, S2, S3 ... Sn are arranged to discharge successively in series with the aerial a in a manner similar to that described in Specification 15,497/10, each spark gap consisting of a number of gaps arranged in the field of an Oudin resonator d1, d2 ... dn as described in Specification 10,639/11. The dynamo D is connected through an inductive resistance R to the aerial a and to one terminal of the spark-gaps, the other pole being connected through inductive resistances r1 ... rn to the other terminal of the spark-gaps, these being also connected to Oudin resonators d1 ... dn, and to condensers c1 ... cn having a common earthed coating C. The discharge of the aerial and one of the capacities c1, say, through the gap s1 sets up a field in the resonator d2 which starts the discharge of the aerial and capacity c2 through the gap s2, and so on. Fig. 2 shows the method by which the discharge cycles are controlled by the transmitting-key i. A second resonator e is mounted in front of one of the spark-gaps, say s2, and this solenoid is connected to the condensers f, f1, and supply mains M, N through inductive resistances, as shown. When the key i is raised, an arc discharge passes across the gap h. without affecting the resonator e, but when the key is depressed, a spark-discharge occurs across the gap h, energizing the resonator e, the field of which starts the cycle of discharges in the gap s2. The ends dx, ex of the solenoids d2, e are brought near together, so that the cycle of discharges may be stopped when both coils are energized together, the fields of the two coils neutralizing each other. In wireless telephony, a microphone is arranged in the potential node of each of the resonators d1... dn, these microphones being controlled by electric means from a single microphone.
