Improvements relating to the Stripping of Palm Fruit from the Cones.

Hulling; thrashing - machines. - -Palm fruit is freed from the cones or heads in which it grows, by means of a stripping - basket consisting of a number of rings 3, concentric and diminishing in diameter downwardly, in which the cone is placed point downwards. It is then acted upon by a plunger 4 attached to a rod 5 sliding in guides 6 and driven by a connecting - rod 7 and crank-pin 10. The spur-wheel 9 carrying the crank - pin is driven by a pinion 13 on the shaft 14, which also carries a pulley from which the fan 21 is driven. This fan directs a blast of air beneath the oscillating bars 19, which form a riddle receiving the material from the stripping-basket through a hopper 18 and separating the fruit from the cones. The fruit falls across the air blast and through louvres 25 to a conveyer. Two or more stripping-baskets may be mounted in one machine.
