13,037. Haddan, R., [National Cash Register Co.]. Nov. 22, 1911. Cash registers with operating-means.-In a key-set and independently - operated cash register, devices are described in connexion with the differential totalizer-actuating means, the prevention of overthrow of the totalizer disks, and the counting of the sales and no-sales. Specifications 7522/03, 12,728/06, 9788/07, and 26,171/11 are referred to. Differential mechanism. - The totalizer, mounted on the shaft 55, is actuated by the indicating-tablet rods 38 through sectors 89, 90, 91, 92 (which correspond to the various banks of keys), and pinions, sleeves, and ratchets and pawls arranged on the countershaft 76. The sectors are returned to their normal positions by connexion with the elevating-bar 24 through links 158 passing through the bar and allowing independent differential setting of the sectors. Overthrow preventing mechanism. - Overthrow of the totalizer disks is prevented by a bar 133 which is caused to press upon the detents 100 of the disks by connexion through a lever 134 with a buffer 137 raised by the bar 24 near the end of its upward stroke. Keys for special transactions; operation counters.-The sales or customer counter 53 (Fig. 7) is normally actuated at each movement of the bar 24 through a slide 67, lug 66, lever 65, and pawls 63. When the no-sales key is depressed however, these pawls 63 are thrown out of action by means of a bell-crank 69 connected with the no-sales counter-actuating lever which is moved by the no-sales indicating tablet-rod.
