Burglar and like alarms.-Relates to improvements in the alarm apparatus for jewel-boxes &c. described in Specification 25,446/11 in which a ball 12, Fig. 1, closes an electric circuit when it falls off the pin 15, and can be reset by a ring raised by the lever 8. In the present invention, the resetting-ring is combined with the ring contact previously used, and the lever 8 is operated by the bolt 21 of the lock of the box. The ball 12 is normally balanced on the pin 15 which is connected through the plate 19 to one side of the electric circuit. When the ball falls off the pin, it closes the circuit between the pin and the arm 9 by resting against the edge of a hole 14 therein. The ball is set in position again by the ebonite cup 13 mounted on the arm 9, which is pivoted at 10 and can be raised by means of the lever 8. The closing of the alarm circuit is rendered secure by the spring 16 mounted on the piece 9, which is released by the first stroke of the bell-hammer 6 and makes contact with the pin 18 also mounted on the conducting-plate 19. The end of the lever 8 passes through a staple 20 in the bolt 21, which is capable of three positions. In the unlocked position, Fig. 8, the stump 24 of the bolt lies in the right-hand gating of the levers 25, and the projection 27 on the rotatable keyhole-boss 26 rests against the stop 31. When the box has been locked, the stump 24 lies in the gating 30; but in order to set the alarm, the boss 26 is turned and the stump is pressed further into the grating 28 by the projection 27, as in Fig. 11. The boss 26 is then turned back to its original position, and the bolt 21 can, when necessary, be unlocked and the alarm unset by a single turn of the key.
