Multiple-chamber kilns.-In a continuous kiln for burning bricks, tiles, or other earthenware, fire-clay, or like goods, a continuous air-space 2 is provided over the kiln chambers 1 with which it communicates through openings 5 closed by removable covers 6, and longitudinal flues 7, 8 are arranged between the kiln chambers, one to receive saturated and moist gases and air from chambers in which green goods are being treated or dried, and the other to receive gases from the chambers in which goods are being burnt. The flues 7, 8 communicate with an uptake or the like for conveying the gases to the atmosphere or to a tunnel or like dryer, and also with each chamber of the kiln by means of a conduit 9. Communication between the conduit 9 and flues 7, 8 is controlled by dampers 10, 11. A separate damper-controlled conduit leading from each chamber of the kiln to each of the flues 7, 8 may be provided if desired. Air inlets to the air space 2 are provided at 4.
