Rotating-tool machines.-Leather and like shaving-machines are provided with a knife guard comprising a vertically movable shutter a, which is operated by the treadle s of the machine. The shutter a is mounted on guide rods b and is engaged by a pair of levers f mounted on a transverse shaft e, which also carries a curved grooved piece g. A rope h connects the piece g to a lever k on the treadle shaft, so that, as the treadle s is depressed to operate the usual feed-roller u, the shutter a is raised, and the material is forced against the knife t. A fluted roller m, which rotates similarly to the knife, is provided to prevent binding of the material on the knife.
