Telephone signals recording ; recording sounds photographically; phonographs.-The sounds of a theatrical performance or the like act on microphones connected to telephone receivers which may have an engraving-arm for recording its vibrations on wax, or an arm with an apertured screen directing a ray of light on to a moving sensitized film. Several traces, controlled from independent microphones distributed about the stage, may be made simultaneously on a single roll and reproduced together by different diaphragms so as to give an impression of the movements of the speakers.
