5145. Disdier, E. Aug. 21, 1912. Extracting sugar.-Sugar cane is sliced obliquely, preferably by the machine described in Specification 19,161/12, [Class 5 (i), Farmyard &c. appliances &c.] and is then simultaneously disintegrated and dried at a temperature of about 300‹ C. in apparatus as described in Specification 25,251/11, [Class 34 (ii), Drying systems &c.]. The product is lixiviated to obtain sugar, or can be pressed into cakes to form food for animals. The extracting-liquid may be the juice from a beetroot diffusion battery. The extract can be used in making syrup, spirits, &c. The bagasse can be used for making paper &c., or dried and made into fodder with molasses &c.
