Valves controlled from a distance.-A distance gas-controller of the type in which the valves are actuated bv clock-work under the control of a bell actuated by temporary pressure variations in the supply main, has .one or more rotary valves adapted to control both the main and by-pass supplies. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the actuating-bell b is guided by pins 4 engaging holes 5 in a partition 6 and a pin 9 engaging a bridge 11 supported by pillars 12. Attached to the bell is a cranked arm 7 and a pin 8, the former being adapted when the bell is raised to lift an arm 23 clear of a pin 20 on a fly-disk and allow the clock-work to operate. The clock-work is stopped after a predetermined interval by a pin 17 on a lever 14 dropping into a slot in a wheel in the clockwork train and moving a lever 18 into the path of the pin 20. When the bell descends, the pin 8 engages the lever 14 to release the catches 17, 18, the clock-work being then held in a position for a re-start by the catch 23. The clock - work is wound by a spindle 27, bevelwheels 26, and spur gearing 26a. The valve members are in the form of ported rotary disk valves, and have toothed peripheries adapted to be engaged by pinions driven by the clockwork train. In a modification, a single rotary cylindrical valve is used instead of the two rotary disk valves, and the actuating-mechanism is so arranged that the gas does not come into contact with it. The valves may be modified to control a series of burners. According to the Provisional Specification, a permanent bypass may be used.
