Boat-releasing gear.-Ships' life-boats are provided at both ends with slots arranged to receive rings A attached to the falls B, the edges of the slots being strengthened with metal. The ring A is provided with a roller R, with which engages a bolt E attached to a handle F and guided between rollers J. The handle F is adjustably hinged to the bracket K, and is connected to a similar handle F and bolt E by means of a rod G guided by rollers H, N. In place of the second lever F, a stayed upright may be employed which is rigidly fixed to the rod G. If it is required to release the falls separately, one of the levers F is detached from the rod G, the levers being held in position by chains or wires attached to a hook or cleat on the boat.
