Dressing by percussion; tools and toolholders. - Relates to power - operated machines for ' nidging ' or dressing paving-setts, and of the kind in which the setts are struck by a tool of the multi-edge axe type, and consists in employing a tool of slightly larger area than the surface of the sett to be treated. Fig. 1 shows a tool formed of a number of axe-edged elements o held by bolts r between a fixed flange n and a removable flange p carried in dovetailed grooves on a frame m detachably connected by a cotter l to the extremity of a rod d which is reciprocated in guides b after the manner of a power hammer. The bolts r pass through elongated holes in the elements o, and packing- pieces may be inserted in slots t at the top of each element so that wear may be taken up.
