Fig. 2 shows an article w being carried on a travelling band 30 between a rotating roller d and a rotary roller k, which is given an up-and-down movement so as to force the impregnating-substance i into the fabric. The rollers may be ribbed, the ribs being removable, or the rollers may be built up of a number of toothed disks arranged to produce the surface shown in Fig. 10. Fig. 12 shows a machine having four pairs of rollers d, k, a travelling apron 30, and an endless bind 40 for conveying the impregnating-substance from a tank 45. A roller 311 removes excess material from the articles. The upper roller k of each pair is mounted in sleeves 22, Fig. 14, depressed by springs 23 and raised intermittently by toothed cam-wheels 20 supporting rollers 21 on the main roller shaft.
