Boots and s h o e s , treating.-A guard for protecting the uppers of boots and shoes during the process of scouring the edges of foreparts, heels, and waists comprises an arm c which follows the outline of scourer a and is fitted alongside and just clearing the scourer. The guard arm c is pivotally mounted at d and is pressed into the welt of the shoe by a spring f, its outward movement being limited by a stop g. An adjustable stop h limits the inward movement of the guard when in use, and determines the extent of the grinding.
