24,705. Scott, R. W. Feb. 14, [Convention date]. Knitting stockings &c. Relates to improvements in stockings &c. with tubular out-turned welts of the kind described in Specification 12,726/13. The course 1 is fed into the hooks of alternate needles of a circular or other machine, and course 2 is supplied to all the needles. An anti-ravelling selvedge is thus formed as described in Specification 12,727/13. Every fourth, sixth, or eighth loop w of the second course is withheld from further knitting during the formation of the welt, as described in Specification 12,722/13. When sufficient fabric for the welt has been made, the body portion of the fabric is commenced on all the needles, the cast-off loops w serving to unite the welt thereto. The welt so formed has lateral elasticity and is of an ornamental character.
