Ordnance, cleaning and cooling; smoke and gases, disposing of.-Consists in injecting compressed carbon dioxide through the vent-axial into the chamber before the opening of the breech in cases of miss-fire. The apparatus used comprises a gasreservoir 18 connected by a valve 20 and pipe 19 to a flexible hose 21, which in turn is connected to a bent pipe 17 having a nozzle 16 adapted to be inserted into the primer-seat 14 of the vent-axial 15 of the breech-block. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) states also that the same apparatus may be used for cleaning the residual gases out df the bore and for cooling the gun after firing, and also that other fire-extinguishing gases may be used instead of carbon dioxide. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
