Capping. - In the attachment of wire ropes or cables to the capels of colliery cages &c., in which the untwisted head of the rope is secured in the capel by pouring in molten metal, weakening at the junction of the rope and capel is prevented by screwing on to the capel d a flexible attachment f which is slotted at a number of places f1, the lower ends of the slots having enlarged openings g, and is of truncated conical shape bored to fit the rope c, upon which it is secured by a clamping-hoop h or other device. By means of this attachment, vibration in the rope is not arrested at any definite point. The attachment may be made in one piece with the capel.
