Indicator or visible signals; bell signals.-An indicator for showing the level from which signals are received in mines and other places comprises a series of tablets b1-b4, shown in rear view in Fig. 2, sliding in guides c and connected by wires f1-f4 to the rapper wires e1-e4. Each tablet b1-b4 carries a pulley g1-g4 and a cord h, which is fixed at j and carries a weight k, and passes over the pulleys g1-g4 and a series of guide-pulleys m. When one of the rapper-wires e is pulled, the corresponding tablet b is exposed through one of the apertures d1-d4 until another rapper-wire e is pulled whereupon the tablet is returned to the normal position, the slack in the cord h being insufficient to permit two tablets b to be exposed simultaneously. The righthand extremities of the wires e1-e4 may be connected to one arm of a bell-crank, the other arm of which is connected to a single rapper-wire. A spring may be substituted for the weight k.
