Alkali compounds, obtaining from complex silicates. - Potassium and other alkali salts are obtained from alkaliferous rocks and weathering products (especially felspar) by heating the rock with gypsum with or without limestone while avoiding fusion, and washing out the alkali salts. The materials should be finely ground and well mixed, and the temperature should be about 1000-1250‹ C. The washed residue, with or without an addition of limestone, may be converted into cement by burning.
