Boxes designed to be of variable capacity; boxes formed of separate shells combined in tiers.-A cardboard, paper, metal-foil, or like box for metal-polishing compositions, or soup or toffee tablets or sticks, &c. is provided with a wire, tape, &c. c, Fig. 1, for cutting the box in a longitudinal direction and with weakened parts b extending around the box. The wire c may co-operate with a vertical weakened line, and may be secured to a bar g. In a modification, the box consists of a number of shells a2, Fig. 5, which may fit into each other, or may be secured by paper bands i, tearing-cords k being provided. In a further modification, the box may be cut along horizontal lines by rotating a ring m, Figs. 8 and 9, provided with a cutter m2 forced into the box by means of a screw n.
