Separate heater and evaporator apparatus.- Relates to apparatus for distilling tar, pitch, oil, and other frothing liquids, wherein the fluid issuing from the still A is allowed to expand through a restricted passage E into a chamber C in which the unevaporated liquid is deposited. The invention consists in (1) controlling the passage E by means of an adjustable valve F, which is set prior to the distillation by a hand-wheel L and locked in position, (2) fitting the valve with a pointer and a graduated scale X, (3) lagging the upper part of the still A, the neck B, and the expansion chamber C, (4) fitting a safety-valve Z on the expansion chamber, the valve being set to lift at a very low pressure. The expansion chamber is fitted with a vapour-outlet pipe H and with pipes D1, D3 for returning unevaporated liquid to the still.
