Transformers, regulating. - Variable inductances or Tesla transformers for use especially in wireless telegraphy have two or more adjustable contacts A, B, Fig. 1, sliding along separate rectilinear guides and bearing upon fixed contacts p, which at one end are connected to single turns for fine adjustment, the others being connected to groups of turns; the contacts p are arranged close to the coil, and the guides are arranged in alinement as shown, or in parallel relation to the coil, and extend over substantially the length of the coil. The width of the fixed contacts is greater than that of the bearing-surfaces of the adjustable contacts. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, three short guides b, b1, b11, with sliding contacts B for finer adjustment, are arranged symmetrically and connected to the contact studs of a switch arm mounted at one end of the coil. In another modification, the fine adjustment is supplied by an arm which is carried by an axially-arranged screw so as to slide along the wire itself. In a Tesla transformer, similar adjusting-means are provided for both coils, the connexions for the inner coil traversing the outer coil.
