Lamp signals,- indicator or visible signals.- In order to facilitate the landing of aircraft at night, sheets or ribbons adapted to be illuminated are laid on the ground. Preferably, the sheets are carried on reels, so that they can be laid in any direction, each reel having a lamp adapted to illuminate the sheet. Fig. 1 shows one arrangement. A central turntable C carries a lamp adapted to give a beam of light at an angle of say 45 degrees, and two sheets or strips D, E are adapted to be payed out from the reels A, B. Each reel carriage is fitted with a lamp for illuminating its sheet. The lamp, on the table C, with the beam at an angle, enables the aviator to judge his height above the ground, as shown in Fig. 4. Signals may be sent by varying the lighting of the sheets or by attaching lights to the sheets. The apparatus may be used on the sea, the sheets having suitable floats attached.
