Manufacture of Products containing Sodium Pyrophosphate and Active Oxygen.

Hydrogen peroxide.-A compound of hydrogen peroxide with sodium pyrophosphate is obtained by reacting not much more than three molecules of the former with one molecule of the latter, or, in presence of a solvent of hydrogen peroxide, sodium peroxide or its hydrate or sodium percarbonate in corresponding proportions of pyrophosphoric acid or acid sodium pyrophosphate, hydrogen peroxide being added, if desired, to make up the proportion of active oxygen. In the examples, crystallized or anhydrous sodium pyrophosphate is mixed with 30 per cent aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide, evaporated at 30-550 C. in a vacuum, and dried over sulphuric acid; anhydrous sodium pyrophosphate is shaken with ethereal solution of hydrogen peroxide, dried by sodium sulphate, the ether being then distilled or filtered off ; and anhydrous sodium pyrophosphate is ground with a quantity of hydrogen peroxide solution containing not more water than will combine with the pyrophosphate, a dry product being directly produced. The products obtained (except by the last example) contain, active oxygen equivalent' to over 24 per cent H2O2, about 27 per cent being mentioned.
