Coal-cutting machines.-In a chain coalcutting machine in which the picks c are carried in boxes b secured at both ends to the links a by lugs g, h and pins j, Fig. 4, or at one end by lugs and at the other by a hinge d, Fig. 1, the boxes b are shaped to bear against the lugs h so that little stress comes on the pins. The inner ends of the picks may rest against, or project partly into, the links.
