Axle stops.-Stops of the star-wheel type, for colliery tubs, tip-wagons, &c., are constructed with the star-wheel axle B2 mounted in bearing-brackets D arranged to slide on guide-rods E, E' so as to take up the thrust when the star-wheels are locked by means of springs F; recoil springs G may also be used. In a modified form, only one rod E is employed on each side, the springs F, G being on the same rod. The star-wheel shaft B is square and has at least one locking-projection B3 which rests on the locking-bar K. The locking-bar K is long enough to lock the star-wheel in any position and is mounted on transverse rods with springs holding it up to the locking position, cam-projections being provided to coact with recesses in the sliding control bar H, so that when the bar H is moved longitudinally, the bar K is displaced transversely, thus freeing the star-wheel. In a modified form, the bar K is shown moving longitudinally with the control bar. Dash-pots may replace the springs for taking up the thrust and recoil.
