17,801. Naylor, C. W., and Taylor, J. E. Dec. 20. Operating and controlling doors by lever, link, and toothed-gear mechanism and by springs.- Relates to operating-mechanism for sliding doors or windows of buildings or rail or road vehicles, ventilators, &c., of the kind in which a lazytongs or lattice-work frame is connected at one end to the door &c. and near to the other end with an opening-lever. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the lazy-tongs 7 is connected to the window 6 by a pivot 8 to allow relative lateral movement of the tongs and window. The operating-lever 9 is removably secured to a short lever 13 pivoted on a fixed stud 17 and toothed to engage a similar lever 20 on a second stud 16. The outer ends of the levers 13, 20 are pivoted to the lower end of the tongs 7. A bow spring 26a may be secured to the bottom of the window frame, so that its ends engage the bottom members of the tongs, as shown, so as to act as a buffer during the opening of the window and to assist the closing. The lever 9 is preferably made of spring material and provided with a pin 29 adapted to engage any of a series of holes or recesses 28 in a fixed bar 27 to hold the window at any desired position. In the construction shown in Fig. 4, a lattice-work frame 30 is pivoted at a fixed point 34, and the operating lever 9 is formed with a slotted short arm 32 engaging a pin 33 on the lower end of the frame. The invention may be applied to windows &c. that close by a downward movement.
