Red lead.-Red or orange lead is made in an oven a by stirring and turning over the litharge or white lead by means of stirrers so arranged that the material is fed from centre to circumference and vice versa when the stirrers or oven are rotated in one direction, but the stirrers which move the material in one direction are in advance of those which move it in the other direction. The oven may be heated externally or internally. In the form shown, the material is placed in a pan or hearth a and is acted upon by adjustable stirrers b, h' acting to move the material towards and away from the centre respectively when the shaft f is turned in the direction of the arrows. Each stirrer is carried on adjustable rods d1 carried by slides d which are adjustable on rods c carried by a head e on the shaft f. The plates b, b1 may be curved or straight and may be tapered as shown in Fig. 1. The shaft f or the pan a is driven from a motor i through a shaft carrying a bevel-wheel k which drives a wheel l. A discharge door a2 is provided. The cover and charging opening are not shown.
