109,689. Mytchreest, T. G. Nov. 6, 1916. Spindle apparatus.-In a drag-arrangement comprising weighted drag-cords bearing against the flanges of the bobbins, the drag is adjusted automatically during the growth of the bobbin, by means which enable the length of cord stretching from the point of support to the point where it rests on the adjusting notched bar to be kept constant, so that the weights have not to be raised or lowered. The bar 5, Fig. 2, to which the drag-cords are attached is adjusted by a ratchet arrangement 19, Fig. 6, operated at each rise of the lifter rail 3, and a pinion 14 and rack 5a. The movement of the bar 5 is controlled by a series of levers 7 and studs 8 operating through curved slots 9 in the rail 3. The pivots 10 of the levers 7 are in alinement with the centres of the bobbins. The pinion 14 is lengthened to allow the rack to remain in engagement as the bar 5 moves towards the bobbins. A hand-lever 22 is provided to move the cords clear of the bobbins for doffing. The lever has a curved slot b' engaging a stud on the bar 5. Return movement of the lever restores the cords and replaces the required initial drag. The slot b1 allows the necessary lost motion between the bar and the lever. A spring 23 on the shaft 15 is provided to increase the friction &c., to prevent the drag-weights moving the bar 5.
