111,787. Imray, O., (Colt's Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Co.). April 2, 1917. Tripod mounts for machine guns.- Consists mainly in mounting the gun in two cheeks pivotally attached to a central socket for the vertical pivot of the gun, the hub of the vertical pivot adjustably carrying the tripod legs by a single clamping bolt. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the gun is pivotally mounted on a trunnion pin 9 in a pair of cheek plates 6 which are braced together by transverse bolts 12 so as to embrace the flat sides of a socket member 3 relatively to which the cheeks and the gun together can pivot on a pin 5, a clamp 8 engaging sector plates 19 to fix the gun at the desired angle. The socket member can turn on a vertical pivot post 4 fitted with a groove into which a block 19 is pressed by a clamp 18 to fix the gun in training. The gun can be elevated with respect to the cheeks 6 by a differential screw gear, the nut 13 of which swivels in the cheeks, the hand-wheel 15 carrying an external left-hand screw engaging this nut and an internal right-hand screw engaging a bolt member 16. This bolt has a groove fitting behind an extension 10 on the gun and side pins engaging slots in the cheeks. The vertical pivot 4 carries an eye 20 with serrated faces engaging a fork on the rear leg 21, corresponding serrated faces on the front legs 22 and 23 engaging the fork, the legs being thus connected to the vertical pivot by a single clamping bolt 24, Fig. 2. The bolt carries an elongated washer 27 and a similar nut 28 each having rounded edges engaging a concave recess in the upper part of the front legs. The bolt 24 passes through an elongated slot in each of the front legs to permit of them being folded against the rear leg for transport.
