118,165. Cadwallader, S. T. Sept. 5, 1917. Holding-tools; vices, hand. - A tool or handle for gripping and holding cutting - tools during grinding or finishing, particularly small cutting - tools for the interior of shells, comprises a h e a d having a sliding jaw operable by a screwed handle and having a projecting pin for engaging a hole in the tool and gripping it against an abutment on the head by turning the handle. The arrangement shown comprises a head 1 having a fixed jaw or abutment 17 on one side and a similar jaw 2 on the other side, and a sliding block 4 mounted to slide in the guides 7 of the head 1. A screwed shank 5 on the block 4 extends through a bore in the head 1 and is engaged by the threaded handle 6. A spring 15 presses the block 4 outwards as the handle is unscrewed. A pin 16 on one side of the block 4 is adapted to engage a hole in a tool b to grip it against the abutment 17 for grinding on its face and edges, and a jaw 3 on the other side of the block 4 is adapted for gripping a tool against the jaw 2. On the end of the block 4 are pivoted jaws 9 opened out by springs 11 engaging pins 12 projecting from the pivots 10 and closed to grip a tool a, when the block is drawn in by screwing up the handle, by inclines 8 on the guides 7 of the head 1. The jaws or abutments 2, 17 may be made slidably adjustable on the head 1 so that they may be set at any suitable distance from the opposing jaw 3 and pin 16 to suit the size of the tool to be held.
