Lap-forming apparatus.-When the drop lever C falls, a friction or other wheel A on the shaft of the wheel B2 for driving the calender rollers falls into gear with another wheel D, which drives the rack pinion shaft J through chain gearing to raise the racks, and simultaneously the weighted end of the brake lever L is lifted by means of an arm N on the shaft of the drop lever and a spring connexion R. When the racks have been raised to a sufficient height, the wheels A, Dare automatically disconnected by means of a chain K attached at one end to a rack J and at the otherto the drop lever.
