Condensation products (parazenes) are prepared by heating 1-amino-4-halogenbenzene, 1-amino-4-halogennaphthalene, or their derivatives, substituted in the nucleus by indifferent groups, or mixtures of these bodies, with condensing-agents, such as zinc chloride, ferric chloride, aluminium chloride, or phosphorus pentoxide, and oxidizing the products. The product from 1-amino-4-halogenbenzene is soluble in acetic acid, the solution dyeing wool or silk. The products form salts with acids. Auxochromic groups may be introduced into the molecule of the dyes by the usual methods. The Provisional Specification mentions alkyl, halogen, amino, hydroxy, and sulphonic derivatives, and also parazenes containing anthracene or anthraquinone nuclei
